Secular Chocolate
The Jews dripped honey on the Torah
page to draw their little ones
toward the sweet Word.
We lean toward chocolate rabbits,
sugarcoated eggs, charming
our children into shreds of ritual.
But God, who is never proud,
touches those who search
for honeyed promises: the hidden foil
beneath the random chair, chocolate
melted on the tongue, the candy egg
cradling a mysterious universe,
ours for the asking.
